Ultimate Guide to Heidelberg Christmas Market

I'm a bonafide Christmas market freak. I've been to dozens of markets across Europe. But nothing compares to Heidelberg's Christmas market. To experience an authentic Christmas market in Germany, look no further than Heidelberg. The scintillating scent of candied nuts, hot mulled wine, and fresh cut pine, mix merrily with the sight of beautiful, handcrafted wooden stalls and the backdrop of ... Read the Post

Top 10 Things to Do in Heidelberg, Germany

Just one hour south of Frankfurt airport lies the fairy tale city of Heidelberg, Germany. Home to a 13th-century castle, the oldest university in Germany, and the longest pedestrian street in Europe (or so I'm told) this city offers plenty to see and do. But Heidelberg doesn't seem to be on the top of most travelers wish list. Having lived here for almost two years I've created my top 10 list of ... Read the Post

Ultimate Guide for The Best Christmas Markets in Europe

Do you smell that? It's hot spiced wine wafting through the air mixed with roasting sausages and nuts. It's Christmas in Europe which means one of the most festive ways to get into the spirit of the season: Christmas Markets! Ornately decorated stalls nestled together in city squares selling hand painted glass ornaments, seasonal food, and all-around yuletide cheer. Growing up in America (Texas to ... Read the Post

Why I Moved to Germany

If you looked at a map and could pick any place in the whole world to live, where would you choose? Maybe you're partial to the sun and sand. Maybe you crave the mountains. Maybe you love a bustling city or the quiet countryside. Whatever it is, we all have our preferences when it comes to a place to live. A few years ago, my husband Michael and I decided we wanted to live in Europe. We traveled ... Read the Post

The Best Fall Festivals in Germany

Fall is my favorite time of year. The leaves are falling, the pumpkin spice lattes are steaming, and the festivals are all around. Before moving to Germany I was worried: how could I recreate my love of The State Fair of Texas!? Luckily, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. The festivals are plentiful; almost every small town to big city boasts a fest this time of year. Each one has it's own ... Read the Post

What I’ve Learned About Germans Since Moving to Germany (Round 2)

I have officially been living in Germany for 8 months. Sometimes it feels like we just moved yesterday. We slung our two suitcases around town in one hand with a dog leash in the other, marveling at the weather and the flowers everywhere. Other times it feels like we've been here for years. We've traveled so much (for me at least) that it feels like surely we've lived here for long enough to see ... Read the Post

I dropped everything. Packed up two suitcases (+ two dogs) and my husband and I moved to Europe from Texas, to travel the world.

Ditch the normal. Create your best life (and blog). Travel, Blogging, Life, and well, everything in between.

  • Happy @bathandbodyworks candle day y’all. It took me 45 minutes to get my order through for my 15 candles at midnight. Turns out I actually ordered 40 because I kept refreshing the screen so... that’s good. My house better be smelling really really good. Candle giveaway happening on stories- 3 winners each get 3 of their fave scents! ALSO... am I a spokesperson yet? Throw me a bone @bathandbodyworks #heleneinnewmexico Use code CANDLECRAZE for $15 off 🙌🏻
  • I never knew that travel would mean so much to me. This might be odd, but it’s like a never-ending project to continually find places, design an itinerary, and discover somewhere new. That’s why I am loving the Holiday Travel Hacker Guide from @KAYAK. I just got back from Nashville (It’s one of their top Wallet-Friendly Flights for 2019, y’all) and it helped me book my flight at the perfect time. You know I love a price graph! I’m already dreaming of a trip to Toronto (also on the list!). Which city on their list would you visit? #helenelovesnashville #ad
  • Y’all already know I’m a detailed trip planner. I’m talking excel spreadsheets and everything. That’s why I was super excited about @KAYAK’s Holiday Travel Hacker Guide. I typically like to pick a destination that is budget-friendly, has lots to do, and might offer some different ideas on hidden gems. So when I saw their guide, it was like they were reading my mind. It gives you ideas (from your own airport!) on where to go, the cheapest time to travel and even tells you when to actually book to get the best price. There are graphs y’all. GRAPHS. There are even recommendations on where to stay, what to eat, and how to save money while you’re there. Perfect for finding deals that will warm you up! #ad
  • It’s beginning to look a lot like... frostbite 😳😂 Jk Jk but we did hike until dark and then Michael took me on a late night photo shoot in which we tried shooting the Rio Grande Gorge in the moonlight. I’ve been in a bit of a funk since we moved home from Europe and this trip is revitalizing me like no other. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s absolutely breathtaking and inexpensive and dog friendly. However, it’s not sled friendly so keep that in mind 😂 #heleneinnewmexico
  • The minute December 1st hits: 🎅🏼🎄🎅🏼 It’s been Four YEARS since I’ve lived in my house and it’s so fun to be home. There are no pictures on the walls, we have only a few pieces of furniture and stuff my parents let us borrow. Our house looks totally unlived in, save for all the Christmas decor throughout the house. And I’m fine with it. Because it’s CHRISTMAS!!!!! My vintage Santa sweatshirt is my new favorite and is 15% off and free shipping (in the US) with code “heleneinbetween”! Everything in this photo linked here: http://liketk.it/2HEom #helenefortheholidays
  • MOOD FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR 👏🏻😏 SWIPE to see me living my best life. 👋🏻 P.S. dying at y’all’s reactions to my stories about what your relatives said to you over Thanksgiving... 😂😂 #sulakids #helenefortheholidays
  • Happy Black Friday!!! Celebrating by offering my Winter Wonderland Lightroom presets for only $15!!!! You get 10 presets (5 mobile, 5 desktop) + a tutorial video! I’ve got other presets, courses, and more on sale- link in bio or stories!
  • Last year, Michael and I had an unprecedented break in our schedule. We always use @KAYAK to scout out flight deals and we happened to see an incredible deal heading to Oslo, Norway. So, instead of using the break to get caught up like normal people, we decided we needed to go! I often use KAYAK Price Alerts to make sure I'm getting the best price. And since we’d never been to Oslo, their insights on when to book the flight, where to stay, and what to do were clutch! We discovered the coolest outdoor museums covered in snow, a Christmas market, and even saw reindeer! What’s a winter destination on your list? #KAYAK #ad #heleneinnorway
  • I’m not going to lie, writing my guide to Christmas in Heidelberg was painful. It’s my favorite time of year there and a little piece of my heart broke off and remained there. But today was a reminder that being home is so so so good. I guess I have to succumb to the fact that I am at home in many places in the world, and maybe that’s a good thing. On the blog my guide to the Heidelberg Christmas markets. SWIPE to see Christmas in Germany the past 3 years #helenelovesgermany #helyeahheidelberg #helenefortheholidays
  • What do I miss about Europe? Well, besides the Christmas markets, I miss the beauty and the history. Dallas can often feel very slick and shiny. Which is cool. But I love the rich history of a place that just seems to ooze a story. Enter @theadolphushotel. It’s been around since 1912 but @thefrenchroom_ might just make it all the more special. The hotel itself just went through a $100+ million renovation. But through that they decided to return it to its original splendor. The French Room and Salon looks like it did when it first opened. The history here is incredible but the design details are some of my favorite and are a taste of European grandeur. Such as the handblown glass chandeliers from Murano, Italy, the original marble white floors from 1912, and 1860 Steinway piano with embossed metal. As the oldest luxury hotel in Dallas I knew it would be cool, but I didn’t think I’d be this blown away. #helenelovesdallas #stayadolphus #adolphuspartner
