State Fair of Texas + Oktoberfest Review!

My absolute favorite time of the year is upon us. That's right folks, it's the State Fair of Texas. I have been to THE Fair countless times and it brings back so many fond memories. The food may be heart stopping but the fair makes me think of a simpler time when people from all over the state got together to play games, ride rides and watch pig races. I love everything about it.

I am of course going this year but wanted to give you some tips about getting in for cheap and even free!! Here are all the deets:

The Fair Starts September 28th and runs until October 21st.
Advance Tickets at Kroger: For $14.50 (its $17 to buy them at the gates) you can get advance tickets at any Kroger plus this gives you a free ride to the fair on the Dart- no paying for parking!. A Season Pass is $34.95 (something I am seriously considering!!).

Kroger Can Food Drive: On any Wednesday, admission is $2 for each visitor bringing 3 cans of food for area food banks. Get in cheap plus help stop hunger- it's a win-win!

Senior Day: FREE Thursdays–Senior Citizens 60 years and older get in to the State Fair FREE each Thursday. This is sponsored by Renewal by Andersen and would be perfect for my Dad or any other old timer!

Any Day: Get some grub at McDonald's and get $3 off General Admission with one of their State Fair coupons (available on tray liner or bag stuffer) any day of the Fair. Also, get a half price child (with purchase of general admission) coupon is also distributed by McDonald’s.

Opening Day, Sept. 28, 2012: Bring any bottle of Coca Cola or Dasani Water for donation to the North Texas Food Bank containers at Fair admission gates and get in for $6 per per person.

Dr Pepper $5 Tuesdays: Any Tuesday, bring an empty Dr Pepper can and enter for $5. Plus most rides are 5 coupons.

Dr Pepper $8 after 5: Any day after 5 p.m. Bring an empty Dr Pepper can and enter for $8 after 5 p.m.

Coke $6 Thursday: Bring an empty 20 oz. bottle of a Coca-Cola product and enter the Fair for $6 admission.

Dickies Day is Thursday, Oct. 11 only: Anyone wearing a Dickies logo clothing item will receive a free voucher for admission to the Fair on October 11, 2012.

Cinemark Thursdays: Bring your Cinemark Movie Theatre ticket stub and receive free admission on any Thursday.

KISS Fridays: Download and print a coupon from the KISS-FM website. Admission is $11 with the coupon. Discount is off of general admission only – when purchased at a State Fair of Texas admission gate with coupon.

Reduced Admission on Midway Rides on Tuesdays: Most rides are only 5 coupons on Tuesdays as part of the Dr. Pepper promo. (Some rides not included)For all the other info about the fair click here to go to the website!

Shenanigans to recap my weekend!It was another fantastic year with food, friends and of course beer. I got there around 3pm with my bestie Lynsdie and we got our drink and sausage on! You can see us here with the popcorn attached to my bag. I looooove Kettle corn!

I'd like to note I have no problem putting up ugly pics of myself. See above and below. We rode rides, danced the polka and ate til we were sick. It was a blast. Chicken hats and all. Afterwards we went to the hotel for a little after party and more chicken dance. All in all it was a success!!
