Best Songs of 2013 {A Link Up}

Today I'm reviewing my favorite songs of the year. There have been so many good ones it's really hard to pick, but I narrowed down my top 10. This is going to be heavily electronic centered, but that's only because I'm obsessed with it. And this is my list. I do what I want with it! This was hard. Really hard for me to narrow it down to 10. I could have easily done 30. So much great music this year. In case you need a refresher here's my list of the worst songs.

10. Lana Del Rey & Cedric Gervais “Summertime Sadness”

I don't care what season we're in, this song is a hit. The song by itself is good, but the remix by Cedric Gervais takes it to a whole other level. Lana knows how to lend her raspy, magical voice while Cedric is able to master the beats, culminating in a song you can listen to just about anywhere: the club, a drive, or just by yourself.

Best Lyric: “Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight. Done my hair up real big beauty queen style. High heels off, I'm feeling alive”

9. Macklemore ft Ryan Lewis “Thrift Shop”

Sure, it's a little overplayed, but Thrift Shop encouraged everyone to pop some tags. This fun, poppy rap thrusted Macklemore into our world and I am grateful. He's got talent and a political edge. He's clever and a little cocky. I like him.

Best Lyric: “Savin' my money and I'm hella happy that's a bargain, bitch”

8. Lorde “Royals”

The world needs a teenager with a little edge. She is everything that American pop stars aren't, which is why she fits in perfectly with today's music scene. I love that she trash talks the likes of Justin Bieber and praises Beyonce. She has other great music, but Royals really put her on top.

Best Lyric: “My friends and I—we've cracked the code. We count our dollars on the train to the party. And everyone who knows us knows that we're fine with this, we didn't come for money.”

7. Trinidad James “All Gold Everything”

The lyrics are full of cuss words but it's catchy and really makes me want to put on some gold. When this song comes on I get down. Plain and simple.

Best Lyric: “Shout out to all them Freshmen, on Instagram straight flexin.” I want to flex on Instagram.

6. Icona Pop “I Love It”

I don't know what girl didn't love this song. It was my summer jam and will easily go down as one of the best hits of 2013. Girl power.
Best Lyric: “You're so damn hard to please, we gotta kill this switch. You're from the 70's, but I'm a 90's bitch”

5. Ellie Goulding “Burn”

Ellie's voice has an almost etheral feel. I'm entranced listening to her. Burn is a mix of her pretty voice plus an upbeat tempo that you can dance to (or sing out loud in the car). This song has everything.
Best Lyric: “When the light's turning down, they don't know what they heard. Strike the match, play it loud, giving love to the world”

4. Daft Punk ft Pharrell “Get Lucky”

Daft Punk is weird, just the way I like them. Pharrell uses his sweet vocals to really make this song a hit. It's a funky, disco, yet somehow relevant today track.
Best Lyric: “She's up all night for good fun. I'm up all night to get lucky”

3. Zedd ft Foxes “Clarity”

Not just one of the biggest dance songs of the year but also topped the top 40 charts. You really can't go wrong with any Zedd song. The Russian DJ has a way to almost make you feel like you're in a dream with his melodies. Clarity does just that, it's easy to listen to while making you want to belt it out.
Best Lyric: “If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy? If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?”

2. Miley Cyrus “We Can't Stop”

Miley may have shocked us all with her naked wrecking ball, but she really took center stage with twerking antics. And We Can't Stop is the perfect anthem for that. Or regular booty shaking. Either way. I love a fun song and this one has all the elements. No, I don't want this song to stop.

Best Lyric: “Remember only God can judge ya. Forget the haters 'cause somebody loves ya”

1. Avicii “Wake Me Up”

Avicii (to me) is the breakout star of 2013. Although I've been listening to him for years, he's really helped the EDM world take center stage. “Wake Me Up” is a little over played, but it's a great song and my top pick for the best song of 2013. It's different and experimental. Electronic dance meets country. And it works. I don't know whether to line dance or rave; I'll choose both. (Also I have a slight crush on the backwards hat wearing DJ.)

Best lyric: “Wish that I could stay forever this young, Not afraid to close my eyes. Life's a game made for everyone, And love is the prize”
