Today is Michael and I's 3rd wedding anniversary. Which is really odd to me because I still feel like the 17 year old girl with a crush on the guy at the high school house party. Our wedding day was absolutely one of the best days of my life. But not just that. It also marks the best years of my life.
When I meet people they always seem interested in Michael and I's story. It is rare to find people that dated at 17, never broke up, lasted through long distance, and then get married. I really do feel like that 17 year old girl still.
On our very first date. |
A question I'm often asked: How did you know? My answer is always complicated, since I can't exactly put my finger on how I knew, I just did. When you meet Michael and I you get a sense that we just seem to fit together. Some people grow apart when they grow up, others grow together.
Our wedding was one of the first out of our friends. I basically had no idea what I was doing. I just knew I wanted it to be a party. There needed to be good food, good people, and great music. I think we accomplished that. I love hearing the stories people still tell me to this day about our wedding: Our friend that passed out AT THE TABLE with sunglasses on. The groomsmen suits that didn't fit. My sisters' speech that ended with “Michael is the best that you could get.” My friend and I rapping to Chris Brown's “Look at Me Now.” Someone hiding the 1,000 hand stamped coasters I made under the gift table, so we handed them out at the bar at 1:30am to those who were keeping the party going.
Even though there were some hiccups, it was perfect. I remember being so nervous and finally someone told me: “Don't stress, at the end of the day you'll be married, and that's all that really matters at all.”
I still feel like newlyweds even though it's been 3 years. We're still having the best time of our life in every moment, and that's what counts. Sometimes, you just know that you're meant to be.
