I'm either good or I'm bad. That's what I tell myself in the morning. “You're going to be good today.” Meaning, I'm going to eat healthy and move more. It's a daily struggle for me. Weight was not an issue in high school or college, even though at times, I thought it was. But when you dance 4 days a week, eating a Marie Calendar's (my personal fav) Chicken pot pie for dinner doesn't really matter. But now it does.
I can blame my desk job. I can blame my lack of time. That I'm just too busy. But I know that if I make healthy choices the weight starts coming off.
I have slowly started to shed some pounds. I have a long way to go, so I have to keep myself accountable. I'd thought I would show you what a day in my life of living healthy. A “good day” as I like to call it.
I wake up and start drinking water immediately. I have a hard time getting in my full eight glasses so I try to always keep some nearby. I open up my laptop, grab breakfast (usually eggs if I have more time, oatmeal if I have less time, or a breakfast bar if I have no time at all).
I have to hold myself accountable. That's the biggest factor for me in losing weight and weight management. I use the Walgreens Balance Rewards healthy choices app to help reach my health goals. I set goals for myself such as 10,000 steps a day, to run 10 miles a week (I'm currently doing the Couch to 5K program), and to check in once a week with how much weight I've lost. After I eat breakfast I check in with the app. The more I interact with the app, the more points I get, which I can use at Walgreens to go towards my purchases! You can even connect other apps like fitbit and myfitnesspal to calculate steps and more to the Walgreens Balance Rewards app.
After my morning meal I try to hit up the gym (otherwise, I want to skip!). I really shouldn't have any excuses when the women's locker room looks like this:
We get free membership through Michael's work. There are TVs in there and sometimes I get distracted and watch Dr. Oz instead of hitting the treadmill. Whoops.
Next, I might run some errands. I went to Walgreens to purchase some healthy snacks and vitamins to help aid in my fitness goals. One thing I'm huge on taking is calcium. Ever since I broke my ankle I have to up my calcium intake. (Right now it's buy one get one free at Walgreens, FYI!)
I try to cook a healthy meal for dinner- lately it's been salmon, a whole grain, spinach, and some fruit for dessert. At the end of the day I'll mark a check on my planner if I exercised and ate healthy, so I have an idea of days a week I do my best.
I know that if I'm healthy or not doesn't necessarily mean I'm good or bad, but what I've learned is to give myself positive reinforcement. Each of my weight loss goals have rewards along the way. I have to keep myself accountable, even if sometimes I don't want to! With Walgreens I'm able work on my weight management and keep a healthy lifestyle.
How do you hold yourself accountable?
