I love music. It speaks to me on so many levels and is appropriate in almost any situation. Certain songs can lift you up, make you laugh, and even cry. Certain songs remind me of my favorite times in my life. Ciara's “Goodies” brings me right back to the night in high school with two of my best friends in the car. The song came on and we were so excited, I stopped the car and we danced in the street. It probably looked like this:
I like to think that songs apply to m e. If I like a song, it must be about me. Especially rap songs. You can even interview in rap lyrics, and everyone should have a rapper name, in my opinion. While you may think these songs don't relate to me. I don't have much money, just one car, and really, most of my clothes are from Forever 21. But I still think they apply to my life. Like today's current top songs:
“Main Chick” Kid Ink, Chris Brown
Main Chick by Kid Ink feat. Chris Brown on Grooveshark
Line that applies to me: I don't know your name, but you've heard my name.
This makes me feel cool. Like you know my name, but I don't know yours because I'm cool. (Except in reality this is in reverse as I'm very good at remembering names.)
“Lifestyle” Rich Gang
Lifestyle (feat. Young Thug & Rich Homie Quan) by Va – www.musicasparabaixar.org on Grooveshark
Line that applies to me: We came straight from the bottom to the top, my lifestyle.
Like Drake says, started from the bottom, now we here. Don't ask me where the bottom is though.
“I Don't F With You” Big Sean
I Don't Fuck With You by Big Sean on Grooveshark
Line that applies to me: I got no feelings to go, I swear I had it up to here, I got no ceilings to go
When
someone is really annoying me, I'm just not going to even mess with
them. I, like Big Sean, am not going to let it bother me. I have better
things to do. Big Sean has plans to make more money and buy a 3 story
house. I intend to go to Sephora and get some new mascara. #Priorities
“Club Goin Up on A Tuesday” ILoveMakonnen
Tuesday (Feat. Drake) by ILOVEMAKONNEN on Grooveshark
Line that applies to me: Club going up, on a Tuesday. Go your girl in the cut and she choosey
I don't remember the last time I went out on a Tuesday. But I did go to happy hour last Tuesday and you can bet that I felt like I was going up, or turning up. Just look at my instagram. See.
“0 to 100” Drake
0 To 100 / The Catch Up by Drake on Grooveshark
Line that applies to me: I go 0 to 100 real quick.
I'm not sure if he's talking about his temper or not, but I can get angry really really fast.
“No Flex Zone” Rae Sremmurd
No Flex Zone by King Rae on Grooveshark
Line that applies to me: No flex zone, no flex zone. They know better.
I feel like we could all really use a lesson in humility and if that means don't flex or show off, I'm all for it. Plus I just want to sing this all day everyday.
So those are my favorite jams and as you can see they all almost 100% apply to me. Thanks to Rap Genius for always explaining the lyrics or when I really can't understand a song. This post was originally posted on The Alisha Nicole blog, and she is awesome.
blog for about a year and a half. I finally took the plunge in August. I
was changing jobs and knew it would be the perfect time to get started
and build a routine. So I took the 5 days in between jobs and got
Puppies & Pretties all set up. Since then, I've taken outfit photos
every day (except for one!) and I've only missed a few weekday posts. My
big test will be this winter and figuring out how to get my photos
taken when it gets really cold!
was one thing that kept me from starting a blog for a long time! I knew
I wanted a name that was fun but still describe me and what my blog is
about. I think I was just driving home one day and it kind of popped in
my head. It really epitomizes me – I love dogs and pretty things –
whether that be clothes, accessories, and just great photos. It was sort
of funny, I was talking to a coworker about my blog and I told him the
name and even he said it was a perfect fit!
Posts
probably take me between an hour to an hour and a half. I almost always
take my photos during my lunch break at work. That takes about 10 to 15
minutes each day. Editing and choosing the photos to use takes probably
another 20 minutes or so. I don't do much editing – mainly just slight
adjustments to the color (auto-enhance is a wonderful thing) and crop
using iPhoto. Then I open up the images in Photoshop to save for
web-friendly sizes. Actually writing my posts can take anywhere from 5
minutes to a half hour. Then I add any links and review it all once more
to make sure I don't sound like a crazy person!
has taught me that I am terrible at time management. I am really good
at falling down rabbit holes like Pinterest, Instagram, or Candy Crush. I
always think – oh just one more game or one more page and then boom! it
is an hour later. The positive thing I have learned is how to be
confident with myself. Over the past few years, I've gotten more into
styling and wearing fun things. It was one thing that my coworkers would
see my outfits. But now that I'm putting all of these photos of myself
online, I know I have to be confident in what I am wearing and what I am
doing. When I first starting taking my photos, I would sneak out to the
back of the office building and make sure no one saw me go back there.
Now I have no problem saying I am taking pictures of myself for my blog.
My mantra is if your going to do it, own it.
The
one positive of having a style/fashion blog based on my every day
outfits, I take inspiration from whatever outfit that I'm posting about
that day. It could be the pattern of the shirt, one of my accessories,
or just the overall mix of the outfit. I also follow a lot of other
blogs. Some are straight up fashion blogs that I look at for ideas for
outfits. Others are more lifestyle. I love reading those for writing
ideas.
