That's it. I'm calling you out. Yes, you. You're lurking. You want to start a blog, and you haven't yet. Or, maybe you are a blogger and you'd just like a boost. Regardless, I think a blog is the absolute best way to connect online, establish your goals, and even make money or a side income. It's as addicting as PokemonGo (speaking from someone who doesn't play video games) and can turn into a lifelong passion.
I started this blog almost 6 years ago when I fell rock climbing and wanted a way to connect with the outside world. Let's say I needed to do something other than watch “Friday Night Lights”. Plus my friend told me she gained 20 lbs when she broken ankle. And I was scared. So I thought doing something with my hands would be smart. I did it for fun, but regardless of your reason, you should do it, now. Here's why (and I'm also going to give you a free course to start a profitable blog!).

Why You Need to Start a Blog
1. Your voice is unique
A lot of people feel that the blogging world is a little saturated. Sure, there are a lot of blogs out there. But no other blog out there will be like yours. Because you have your own voice, unique take on things, and set of passions your blog will be separate from anyone else's site. So I think there is room for you and what you have to say.
When I first started I sincerely had no idea I would make this my full time job. But after a short time I knew I loved it and I needed to turn this passion into more of a full time gig. Mainly because I spent way too many hours obsessing over my blog, and not as much as I should have at my display advertising job.
Regardless of your reasons for starting, you have a story to tell. Your unique experiences, passions, and writing style will be different from everyone else's. If you develop a voice there's no telling what will stop your blog.
2. You run out of room on Facebook*
Or really, any social media channel. If you enjoy writing or talking about your thoughts, then you need a blog. Better yet, when you have a blog you are documenting and able to look back and review what you write about.
I will never delete old posts, the stuff from my archives is awesome and always makes me laugh (like this one.) With a blog, you're able to consciously look back on your life and see all the things you've done. Whether you choose to take it to the next level (monetize) or not, you have a great way to remember.
3. You want to “meet” people going through similar things
The power of the internet is that we can connect with people that we might never interact with. When you write about yourself and your life, you discover others with similar experiences. Imagine feeling alone, dealing with something you feel like no one else is going through, and then bam! Someone with a similar experience?! This can go both ways. You can connect with people that are just like you. I found that in my lifelong friend Sarah. I would have never met her if it hadn't been for blogging.
4. Online portfolio
If you want to show off your marketable skills, a blog is a great way to do so. Whether you're a photographer, graphic designer, writer, social media marketer, real estate agent, the list goes on, a blog is the perfect way to showcase your work. In addition, you are building up an online reputation. Furthermore, in this day and age, if you don't have a website for your business, chances are consumers will go elsewhere.
5. You have a diary
If you are writing a diary I suggest you also write a blog. I think all women should write down their life. It's the best form of therapy (minus wine and Netflix) and helps you sort through bumps in the road. You can even anonymously blog if you'd rather not reveal your identity. But like I mentioned above, if you can connect with someone else going through a similar experience, it will be worth it.
6. You want to inspire
Maybe you have a message you'd really like to get out. Maybe you have a keen fashion sense. Maybe you are just really hilarious. No matter what, the world could use it. Writing a blog provides the access for people to hear what you have to say.
7. You want to make money
There is NO shame here. Whether you're looking to go full time or make a side hustle, blogging is an excellent source of income. You can start a blog from scratch with a little bit of effort and a a few dollars. Eventually, you can make money and even passive income.
Or maybe…. you just want some free stuff or recognition for your thoughts. Regardless, go on with your bad self. You deserve it.
To me, starting a blog and expressing your passions by no means you're announcing your superiority in those areas. Instead, you're showcasing your love and experiences in a relatable way. And that's so valuable. So, to make sure you're on the right path, here's a FREE course!
