I worry easily. I am over dramatic about issues that are seemingly insignificant. I freak out sometimes. Michael would say often, I'll call it sometimes. I get stressed out frequently. I always have – even if it seems silly later on. I have the stress gene. My Dad has it. My sister has it. In fact, I think even my dog, Millie, has it. It being stress.
Typically, my go-to for relieving stress has been food. I just find comfort in it. I think to myself that if I want to relax I need to pair that with eating. So I've decided to flip the switch. Instead of eating, I'm moving. I'll go for a walk, do some lunges while I watch TV, or I'll just blast some good music and dance it out. Lately, a bike ride has been my favorite activity.
We live fairly close to White Rock Lake in Dallas. Michael loads the bikes on his pink bike rack and we head to the lake for the 9 mile loop. It's just cool enough to still do this in Texas without melting from the heat. The lake is in perfect view of the Dallas skyline and an excellent place to stop and smell the roses. Or in my case the bluebonnets.
Michael took this photo of me trying to get a good image of the skyline. When I came back he was grinning from ear to ear. He didn't tell me he took this picture until a few days later.
The other day I was over the top stressed. With work, planning our trip to Europe and that time of the month, I needed to get out of the house. Michael and I packed up a quick picnic and hopped on our bikes for a sunset cruise around the lake.
After 45 minutes of biking the trail, a glass of Pinot Grigio and some fruit; I felt a lot better. In fact, I felt good. There's a comfort in having something that you love to do that helps ease away stress. Michael looked over at me and asked, now what were you worried about? And I actually couldn't tell him.
