My hair has always been my signature look. Even though I clock in at a staggering 5'2″, my husband can always find me in a crowd. For the past 15+ years I've had long blonde wavy hair. I don't see myself any other way, and I like it like that. I have naturally wavy hair and because I highlight often, it tends to get dry fairly easily. I call my hair straw, the ends get frayed and have a crispy texture. This is especially true for me in the winter.
So here are some tips to grow your hair long and strong, especially during these harsh winter months.
What I'm about to say might be weird, but it's what I do, and it seems to work. I don't brush my hair often. In order to get the wavy texture that I like, sans frizz, means that a brush can be my enemy. So I maybe brush it once a week (sometimes even less.) I usually do it right before I shower.
Sometimes I'll brush the under sections, since those tend to get tangled up in my sweaters and I get massive knots.
I rely on good shampoos and conditioners. I should note, that I'm cheap. Really cheap. That's why I really like the Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. For ridiculously smooth and healthy hair, this product is great for all hair types. After just one wash you can get 5x silkier hair! And it won't make it look greasy and contains a blend of African Macadamia oil and Coconut oil.
My hair routine is basically wash and go. I don't use a lot of products,
I rarely use any heat, and this really helps keep my hair healthy. I ALWAYS use a leave in conditioner. I use the Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment. I use just a few drops and massage it into the bottom half of my hair. I don't like using a bunch of products that can potentially damage or weigh down my hair.
Because I don't really blow dry it, I'll either let it hang loose, or I'll twirl it up into a top knot on my head (my hair is long enough that I tie it up without using a elastic to hold it into place.) This also helps keep the wave.
I don't wash my hair everyday. I'm not saying I don't bathe myself everyday, but I don't wash my hair everyday. It keeps those natural oils in my hair. If I'm looking greasy, I'll spritz on some dry shampoo.
I don't get trims. It's a myth that you need to get a
trim to get longer hair. Your hair is dead. It's not going to know that
you got a trim and it won't alert your scalp to grow longer.
