Yesterday was the first day that I didn't blog on a Sunday in a month. Blogging for 31 days is hard. But coming to this space today, not knowing the prompt was a completely different challenge. It's one of those days where I'd like to dump out what I'm feeling, but nervous that's not what people want to read. So of course, I'm doing it anyway.
I had a stressed out weekend. My pictures on Instagram paint an entirely different picture, as most people's do. I don't have a problem with that, you want to showcase the highlights. Friday, Halloween, of course, my mother in law was scheduled to get a double mastectomy. I haven't spoken about that much here, although I alluded to it, it's been scary to see another close family member go through chemo treatments. For the record, she has a rare form of breast cancer that's very aggressive. She's been doing great with treatments and the next step is radiation.
Michael and I dressed up on Friday night as Patrick Bateman from American Psycho and a baseball player from a League of Their Own.
And the pups dressed up too. Millie Mouse and Chicken Hugo.
Michael stayed in chaacter the whole night…
I carried my bat in the loop of my skirt, which I'm sure they did in the 1940's.
Friends before blogging, Molly, is the Indian!
You're welcome for these grainy iPhone photos.
We had a blast. Even though we vowed to leave at midnight, we didn't get home until close to 2:30 am.
Looking back at pictures reminded me that I need to get back on the healthy train. I'm completely unhappy with the way I look and need to make a change. Now. I was bad this weekend and I couldn't say no to leftover Halloween candy.
Sunday was going to be a day of relaxation, fall cooking and playing with the dogs.
We took them on a hike to a nearby park where they could be off leash and run circles around us. I'm pretty sure that for every mile we walk, they walk 5.
It was a typical day, and we came over to the creek so Millie could swim, her favorite part. After she scaled the hill back up we noticed a trail of blood running down her leg. We looked and she cut a gaping hole in her right leg. So much so you could see the muscle. We rushed her to the emergency vet and waited for what felt like hours (it was about an hour) to be seen. Michael kept insuring it would not be too bad but I sat there worrying and tearing up.
If you want to see the enlarged picture of her leg click the picture. But fair warning, it's a little gruesome.
She got 4 staples and orders to rest. She's already breaking the resting rules.
Sunday night I was feeling down about everything. This is a very busy week for me and I felt like I just couldn't handle it. To chill out, Michael and I decided to watch a documentary on Netflix called “Undefeated.” It's a story of an intercity high school football team in Tennessee. These kids have it rough. Most of them growing up with only one parent, holes in their ceiling, and only baking soda to brush their teeth. What it shows is because of a coach, and the inspiration that football is something positive in their life, changes everything for the better. I'm not a big football fan, but when I can see how it helps change lives, I totally get it.
I am lucky. I have so many benefits and great people surrounding me. The movie made me not only appreciate what I have, but realize that changing your perspective makes all the difference. November is one of those months when you appreciate what's happened in the past year. I intend to relish in the wonderful things that happened and value the good and the bad.
