I don't know if you know this about me, but I love wine. As I get older, it's become a necessity to my life. I crave a glass of wine after a long, hard day. Or, even after a pleasant one. Or with a game night with friends. Wine, to me, is the perfect pairing to a great evening.
I'm always on the hunt for the perfect wine with my meal. Especially after I had a fancy dinner in Dallas. Having a delicious wine with your meal, really makes everything taste good together. Now that it's soup season, I've been on the hunt to find the perfect wine pairing with my favorite soups and fall dishes.
Then, I discovered Crios Wine. Crios wine is a family-owned brand by Susana Balbo, Argentina's leading and most innovative winemaker. Crios in Spanish means “offspring” and was created by Susana as a tribute to her son, José, and daughter, Ana. Nowadays, Susana’s children have joined the family business and add their young-adult point of view to the wines that are dedicated to their family bond. Crios wines are harvested from specific areas in Mendoza and Salta in Argentina, where grapes are optimal for the fruit-forward style of Crios.
Each of the Crios wines have a background, and a story behind each wine. They each carry an inspirational message that also represents either a milestone in Susana’s personal and professional life or the story about how the wine was made. For example, the wine I tried, Rosé of Malbec, has a message to “Look at life differently”. Which is the perfect message for my tastebuds- to shake it up.
I thought of only pairing a red wine with my hot soups, but the Rosé of Malbec was the perfect compliment to my sweet potato soup recipe. The one-of-a-kind- fry wine filled with notes of wild strawberry, red cherry, and hints of spice brought out the spices in the soup. It's a vibrant, dry and full-bodied wine, so it's also great on it's own.
When I try a new wine, I find I'm discovering I love it more than ever. There's always something new to try and a delicious way to prepare it with the meal.
