Now, I know you're wondering: why this cabin and why Broken Bow, Oklahoma? So you can keep on reading for that! Or, you can book right here!
Why Broken Bow
Since 2009, my husband Michael and I have been coming to Broken Bow, Oklahoma. It's only 3 hours from Dallas and feels like a completely different world with the lakes, mountains, fishing, and gorgeous cabins.
It's also only 3 hours from Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Little Rock and Hot Springs, Arkansas and Shreveport, Louisiana. There are scenic drives, places to swim and fish, along with great restaurants and bars and even a winery.
Hochatown is so unique. You have places to eat and drink and even activities like zip lining and helicopter tours. But then you go up to the cabin and you're away from it all. It's just the perfect escape.
Nearby, you have Beavers Bend State Park for hiking (I recommend Friends Loop Trail and Skyline trail, or Lookout Mountain loop for views). Situated in the southern United States, Broken Bow Lake is one of the most breathtaking lakes in the Southeastern USA. With its rocky banks and deep, clear water, it attracts boaters, fishermen and waterskiers alike. The lake is teeming with giant bass, magnum crappie and monster catfish – making it a fishing paradise. Michael's favorite activity here is fly fishing, mine is reading!
There are scenic drives, fall colors, rivers, lakes, and hiking trails all around. You can also go golfing, or taste some local wine at Girls Gone Wine. There are activities for all ages.
On a personal note, this place means a lot to us. It's actually how I came up with my blog and Instagram name “Helene in Between.” We were heading to Broken Bow and I was riding in the middle seat while my husband and a friend were in the driver and passenger seat.
There I was, with the ice chest on one side and my dog, Hugo, on the other. I looked around and said, “boys in the front and Helene in between.” I scrambled for my phone and wrote down “Helene in Between – blog name.” When we got home I immediately changed it and it's been that way ever since!
Of course, every detail of the cabin is meaningful to us, including the name.
The Cabin
For a long time we wanted to find a way to share travel with you. We wanted to invite you to one of our favorite places and help you make memories there too.
We've stayed at over 1,000 hotels and Airbnbs. We know what we like when vwe stay somewhere. We wanted to put together a place where you'd have all the luxuries you'd need to have the best vacation.
We spent over a year researching where and why. We knew we wanted it to be a place that was meaningful to us, and Broken Bow just makes sense.
Then we wanted to design a cabin with thoughtful details that would matter to us and you.
First, we wanted it to feel grand. Upon entering you have large, open floor plan with windows all around. You're greeted with a hand painted mural featuring our cabin name, Misty Blue! We designed this with a graphic designer to look like a vintage National Park poster. Then we had an artist hand paint it!
Now, the name, “Misty Blue“. First, because, the cabin itself if blue. Second, around the time when we started going to Broken Bow, we would watch the show “So You Think You Can Dance.” Our favorite performance of all time is by Sasha and Twitch to the song “Misty Blue.” It evokes emotion, passion, and love, all things we want to share with you!
Take a peek inside the cabin! There are cozy leather couches, an indoor fire place, plush curtains, a large kitchen island, 2 dishwashers, 2 refrigerators, 2 washers, 2 dryers, and all your kitchen necessities to cook with. We worked with an interior designer to make sure the space feels cozy but luxurious.
There are 4 large suites and a bunk room along with 4 bathrooms. In total, the cabin can sleep up to 22. It's great for groups, but also works for smaller groups who want to get away and have their own space.
The bathrooms and bedrooms are fully stocked with everything you need and we made sure that you'll have luxury towels, soaps, pillows, sheets, and comfortable beds. We were adamant about things like blackout curtains and soft lighting to ensure the best night's sleep.
The deck has a couch, fireplace, ping pong table, hot tub, grill, Blackstone griddle and cornhole. There's also another seating area near the woods with string lights and a wood burning fire pit.
There are places to hang out upstairs and downstairs along with games and TVs in nearly every room.
But maybe one of the best parts is the location! You are close enough to town that it's only a 5-10 minute drive, but far enough away to feel like you're in a secluded oasis.
You'll wake up and see deer walk around the wooded 2+ acre property!
We know you'll love this place as much as we do.
It's waiting for you!!
