My entire 28-and-a-half years have been spent in the state of Texas. Scratch that. They've been spent in Dallas. Not a suburb of Dallas. But a 10 mile radius inside of the city. I've always lived at home or within 12.2 miles from my parents' house.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. Not at all. I'm over the moon about Dallas and Texas. This is my home. I'm proud of it and I love the life I've created here. But for the past few years Michael and I have wanted to try something different. And that something different isn't a baby (sorry if that's what you thought it was) and now seems like the perfect time to do it.
When we got married four years ago we followed all the steps. We moved in together after the honeymoon. We got a puppy (Hugo). We bought a house. We traveled to Europe. We raved our faces off (wait- this is not a step in the life program). We are very very happy. But, we wanted to take a little adventure. And by little, I mean we wanted to uproot our lives and move out of Texas.
A few years ago we talked about moving. Then my Dad got extremely sick with stage 3 melanoma. The topic went completely off the radar. I wanted to be here for him with his treatments. Then just as soon as my Dad was getting better, my mother-in-law found out she had the rarest form of breast cancer possible. We decided to hold off on our plans.
This past year I took a job in which I work completely virtual. First, I cannot even explain how right this job is for me. Additionally, it opened up an opportunity: now we could actually move and I could still keep my job. Next, Michael needed to see if he could also keep his job. We were worried, but his employer decided he is too vital to not have on staff. So he too can work remotely.
As of now, we can live anywhere in the United States of America, keep our jobs, and go on an adventure. We will be bringing the dogs, of course.
Our requirements are these: a music scene, outdoorsy, great community/nightlife, big (I'm just not a small town girl), and centrally located. Any guesses?
I know you might be thinking: big deal. But, for me, it is. For the first time in my life I'm moving out of Texas. I'm moving away from my family. I'm moving away from everything that I know. I'm excited and nervous and am still wondering what the hell I'm doing. Any tips on moving across the country are GREATLY appreciated.
I'm really excited for this journey and I can't wait to tell you more. Stay tuned.
