It all started with a fall.
No, really.
I'm Helene and I started this blog after I fell rock climbing. it was just for fun. And then, it became sort of my life. It' allowed me to make this my job, to move abroad, to travel, to write, and even work with my husband.
Do you I never thought I'd be here. Well, not just here, but where I am today. In 2016 I moved from Dallas to Germany. In 2019 I moved back to Dallas to write and explore more of America and the world.
I never thought I'd be a full time blogger. Or that I'd hire my husband to work with me, full-time on the blog.
But here we are! Michael and I work together to write, share,
So what is this blog about, anyway? I share with you my travel experiences, tips and tricks for getting the most out of your trips, strategies for creating a successful blog, how to manage real life, and social media (with an emphasis on Instagram). I DO NOT believe in niches but I believe in great content and sharing your gift with the world.
Things I love: dancing, electronic music, dogs, my husband, my family, gelato, photography, diet coke, bloggers who support other bloggers, and writing. Not necessarily in that order.
I travel for fun and blog for a living.
And I LOVE it. I'm working on a book, a course, and a way for more of us to connect online.
Blogging isn't easy. It's a full time job: writing, taking photos, editing, commenting, social sharing… and so much more. When I started my blog I wasn't sure of my direction. I only knew I was passionate about it. Three years later, I quit my “real” job and decided to make blogging a full-time job by helping others find their online voice and establish their presence.
This blog intends to help you explore new places, save money to travel and live your dreams, provide tips, and help you make an impact online. (Sign up for my newsletter to receive free tools on how to succeed online, directly to your inbox.)
For the past six years I've worked in social media, online advertising, marketing, SEO, analytics, and basically anything to do with the online landscape. When I launched my blog in 2011, it was actually called “Do Dallas Cheap.” I posted about daily deals. But I quickly grew tired of the topic, and after three months, I quit. In early September 2012, I started blogging again. This time I wanted it to represent me — my life, what I love and really… everything in between. So Helene (pronounced like Hell – Lean) in Between was born.
On September 30th my life took a drastic turn. I fell 20 feet while rock climbing, breaking both my ankle and leg. I was laid up at home, unable to go to work for weeks. My only outlet was to pour my heart into this blog. It became the silver lining. Writing has always been a passion, so my blog allowed me the freedom to write about anything and everything. I focused on my favorite topics: music, travel and humor, while dabbling into anything that sparks my interest.
I'm married to my high school sweetheart and we now work full time, together, on the blog. We have two dog children — Hugo, a Doberman, and Millie, an English Springer Spaniel. Music is one of my biggest passions. I've actually traveled to Belgium four times for the music festival “Tomorrowland.” Travel too is another passion. I simply can't sit still. I moved (for the first time) out of Dallas, Texas to Nashville, Tennessee. It was around this time that I decided to make blogging my full time job. I now offer courses teaching others to do the same, easily, without the stress or hassle I went through.
A little about Michael:
Michael is a man's man and doesn't have a mustache to be ironic. He just likes it. His focus for the blog is photography, brand outreach, editing, and social media.
I truly believe life is all about perspective. I have no problem with the idea of viewing the world through rose colored glasses. If you ask me, it's all good.

Oh Helene, your sweet but mean-looking dog is precious! Growing up, my parents and I had two Dobermans (Leo was about 150lbs and Kate was 120lbs) that were precious, spoiled rotten babies! However, a stranger come around and they were on high alert. Awwwww. =)
p.s. where in Texas are you? I'm south of Fort Worth.

You are so precious and I feel 100000000% the same about Cory and Topanga. I was actually talking about that the other day haha. And that forever 21 sweater in mint is the most comfortable thing I have ever put on my body!!

Hi! I just read your post on Total Bassetcase's blog and I read that you feed your dog raw? I feed my dog raw too and it is so rare to come across someone else who does so I figured I'd stop in and say hi! 🙂
I just got my puppy at the end of October and started feeding her raw chicken, which she still eats, but I was wondering if you've ever fed any other raw meat and what works for your dog/what meat you find to be the easiest to feed? I'm trying to branch out but unsure of what to get with anything but chicken!
Also I was wondering what made you decide to feed raw (because it's so rare to find other people who do) and if you ever get any criticism for it! (:
Thanks!
Alex

HI there-
I read your post on BlogHer.com and loved it. It really made me think. I started to comment but then it turned into a post for my blog. Here is the link if you are interested: http://terrilively.blogspot.com/2014/07/woman-without-kids-why-you-dont.html,
I mentioned this on your post and thought that we could consider doing a dual post together in the future. We have unique perspectives that might compliment each other for an audience. Some ideas could be:
A day in the life: Saturday
Why I Wish I Could Go to Sleep Tonight
Why Kids Should/Shouldn't be at Weddings
The last 10 movies I saw
Let me know if you are interested.

Hi Helene! I absolutely love your About Me page! You're story is so inspiring on how you got to be where you are now. I too have always wanted to start writing, somehow, but had no idea what I could possibly write about. Then it hit me; just be myself! It's an amazing feeling to just be able to write about whatever thoughts pop into your mind or whatever interests you may have. I am so excited to become a follower and supporter of your blog and the great work you've done here.
Always,
Alison 🙂
