How I know I married the right guy
I think in this day and age it's hard to know if you're with the right person.
I mean, half of all marriages end up in divorce.
However, “88 people believe they have a soul mate” says an LSU study.
I am part of that sad sap percentage.
What I am not part of is the 65% of people that live together before they are married. (Y'all are just living in sin.) Just Kidding. I could care less, we just didn't. We also dated for 6 years before we got married- so we needed time apart.
But, how do you really know you married the right person?
Short Answer: You can't.
But I think some of the reasons below prove that he's a pretty good catch and we are right for each other.
You have to have initial attraction.
I mean obviously he is a looker. Look at that ‘stache. And that shirt he has now turned into a small vest! I'm so proud. What a turn on.
Opposites Attract, but it's also good to have common likes and interests.
We both have similar values. Like treating others with respect, trust and listening to your partner. And going to Ke$ha concerts.
We both agree on not having kids (at least for now) and love big dogs and blue bell ice cream.
And we both like to act normal in public.
He appreciates the significant things in life. Like working hard, saving money and the importance of celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
You have to work at relationships. We get in fights and bicker but we always keep in mind our love for each other. Or if we can't agree, we just dance it out.
I confide in him for everything, and I know he will always be there for me to talk about anything. He knows just how to cheer me up. Like giving me wine and wearing neon.
And of course, he makes me smile.
We are celebrating 8 years since we started dating. EIGHT. Someone give me an award. We started dating when we were 17. If you want to read our love story you can go here.
I think he is the best thing, even if he makes me madder than a disturbed hornet's nest.
But he gets me. And I get him.
How do you know you found the right one (this can apply to husbands, boyfriends, best friends, animals)?
