Dallas is known for fabulous shopping, its skyline was recently named the top in the U.S., and it boasts spectacular chef-inspired restaurants. But a full blown Dallasite often overlooks the wonders that attract tourists. That's why my staycation at W Dallas – Victory hotel was a perfect reminder of what makes Dallas my home and why I love this city so much.
In fact, W Dallas – Victory is the quintissential “Dallas” hotel. It features decadent chandeliers and modern decor while also echoing Texas heritage with leather and cow-skin chairs and cowboy motif murals. It's situated in the heart of Downtown Dallas, taking full advantage of the world famous skyline.
The stunning architecture is punctuated with beautiful details, like fresh floral displays throughout the hotel. The fact that I'm moving soon made spending time in the heart of Dallas a meaningful experience. Staying at The W Dallas – Victory was the perfect way to view the city through a new perspective — like a tourist.
The hotel is within easy walking distance to some of the best (and oldest) restaurants in Dallas, like El Fenix (try their delicious and cheap frozen margaritas), as well as some of the newer attractions, like the Perot Museum (you can literally spend the whole day in the science museum). And after dark, a thumping night life scene is all around.
Michael and I spent Friday night at the hotel restaurant: Cook Hall. This gastropub offers a unique menu with handcrafted cocktails. Filled with fun lighting and comfortable, sturdy leather chairs, we were ready for a phenomenal meal.
The menu features small plates meant to be shared. Michael and I wanted to sample it all. We started with butternut squash soup, deviled eggs, and my favorite, the homemade ricotta cheese with honey and fresh baked bread. I'd go back for that alone! Unique flavors worked together to create something rich and delicious. One of many great dishes.
We split a main course of sea scallops with shaved butternut squash. To wash it down we tried some of the specialty cocktails. My favorite liqueur, St. Germain, which I can't turn that down, ever, drew me to the “Texas Hound.” It's made with Deep Eddy ruby red Vodka, St. Germain, and cranberry: shaken. Michael opted for the “Garden Smash.” It consists of Nolet's gin, cilantro fresno chili, and lime. We were both pleased.
These unique cocktails were a pleasure to taste, with the flavors melding together in perfect harmony.
It being National Pina Colada day, we moseyed on up to the 16th floor after dinner to sip iced Pina Coladas by the pool, and check out the expansive city views. We weren't disappointed.
The pool and deck look out in three directions, so you can take in all of the Dallas skyline —the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge, Reunion tower, the American Airlines Center and Victory Plaza.
Michael and I lingered up there, losing track of time. Despite the Dallas summer heat, it felt breezy by the pool. We drank and chatted and raised our glasses in a toast to Dallas in all it's glory. Yes, I will miss this city.
After sunset, we went back to our room — modern and spacious,
with a flair for the funky. Check out the “Dallas Hair” pillow on our
bed. On the back, it provides instructions on how to tease your hair. Only in Texas.
Our room featured snakeskin details, with deep blues set against contrasting white and black decor. I particularly loved the huge shower, which allows you to turn the water on and off without getting splashed. I fell blissfully asleep that night.
On Saturday I shopped and ran around to some of my favorite Dallas hot spots. I managed to grab some new threads at Dallas' great shopping mecca: NorthPark Center. Dallas is crawling with excellent shopping spots, but NorthPark is a must in any shopping roundup of the city. I even crossed an item off my Dallas Bucket list!
That night Michael and I attend a wedding at Union Station (not far from the hotel), so we hung out at the W Dallas – Victory's bar — one of my favorite spots in Dallas. With towering chandeliers and ample seating, you feel like you're in the lap of luxury.
After the wedding, we enjoyed cozying up at the hotel. I really felt like I was on vacation. This is the perfect Dallas stay-cation hotel. It would also be great for bachelorette
or bachelor parties, events and more!

Thank you to The W Dallas – Victory for this wonderful opportunity to play tourist in my hometown, and to say a proper farewell to my favorite city. We'll definitely be back.
